Fringe benefits! The return of the sweeping bangs trend
By now, you’ve probably seen that the bangs / fringe trend has well and truly made a comeback, with many girls taking the plunge and making the change to their hair. We have seen so many girls rock this look on Instagram, with their fringes perfectly framing their faces and adding amazing texture and depth.
It’s a hair change which can be quite permanent though, and it can be quite anxiety inducing for some – especially if your hair doesn’t grow back very quickly.
Naturally, we needed to get the low down on the best way to go about chopping bangs and ensuring they work for you. We asked the lovely Nat Ragusa from Edwards & Co. in Melbourne to give us her best tips on making the most out of a newly cut fringe.
Tell us Nat, What are the main reasons clients are coming you, wanting to cut bangs?
Change! Bangs are definitely a go-to when a girl wants to do something different with her hair! Seeing bangs on influencers and celebrities are a big push to give it a go!
How do girls know what kind of fringe they should get?
I think seeing bangs on someone else gives them some inspiration on the style they want! You want to be getting a fringe that’ll suit your face shape, we all want something that’ll flatter our face and enhance our facial features.
Getting a fringe can seem scary and quite permanent! What are you tips for gals who want to try the trend but are a bit nervous?
Fringes are a lot of maintenance! You do have to style it each morning if you want it to sit perfectly. I’d suggest for girls to start with some shaping around the face with shorter strands and move into more of a long curtain bang, rather than straight away opting for a front fringe!
Anything that girls should steer away from when getting one? What should they definitely not do?
I think it’s important to only get a fringe if you’re willing to style it! You have to be willing to get little fringe trims to ensure it keeps its shape! DO NOT CUT IT YOURSELF!I’ve seen waaay to many gal pals try this at home and it’s never a good thing!
What are your top fringe styling tips for gals once they've got them.
I think the right styling tools and products are super important. You’ll want to have a hair dryer and a round brush suited for your fringe. This will help give you that ‘swept back’ look for side/curtain bangs or that full front fringe!
Any products girls should use to tame their fringe and keep it looking fresh in between washes / salon visits?
I think the best thing for fringes is texture! No one wants their fringe to sit flat to their face! Dry shampoo and texture spray will help to keep the fringe airy, light, and give it more movement! I love the Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampooor their Dry Thick Texture Spray for some oomph!
How can girls deal with the growing their fringe out phase?
Growing out your fringe can be difficult at times, but the key is to not cut it back! Let the hair grow because it will! I think a cute ‘half up half down’ top knot always works! And of course, the good old faithful bobby pin will be your best friend!
