Follow these recommendations to ensure a long and happy relationship with your pillowcase:
Dry cleaning is the safest way to extend the life of your silks, but for most of us it is not achievable when it comes to the expense of dry cleaning bed linen.
Hand washing will ensure delicate handling of your silk pillowcase.
We recommend using a natural, pH-neutral detergent (one that specifies it is safe for silk) or a gentle shampoo.
Use cold water only (below 30°C/ 86°F), and rinse well after.
Try rinsing with a vinegar and water solution to eliminate any soap residue, reduce any yellowing of the silk, and also restore the natural soft lustre of the silk.
Machine washing is possible, providing you follow these important rules:
1. Always use a delicates bag.
2. Always use a cold cycle (below 30°C/ 86°F), or a “Delicates” or “Handwash” cycle if your machine allows for it.
3. Use a detergent that is safe for use with silks. We highly recommend using natural and pH-neutral laundry detergents.
4. Rinse with a vinegar and water solution to eliminate any soap residue, reduce any yellowing of the silk, and also restore the natural soft lustre of the silk.
Always treat stains quickly to reduce their ability to cause damage to the silk.
Keep your Hello Hair Hydrating Mask away from your Hello Hair Pure Silk Pillowcase as the oils could be a nightmare to remove!
Drying your silk pillowcase is an important step.
We encourage air-drying, by hanging or laying the pillowcase flat on a towel. Line-drying your pillowcase is fine, but be wary of direct sunlight as it can cause yellowing of the silk fibres.
Ironing is a great way to dry your silk pillowcases.
If you plan to iron your silk, it is recommended that you always iron inside-out, preferably while the pillowcase is still slightly damp. Alternatively, you can use the steam function of your iron on a silk/low setting.
